Monte,
Your generosity is clearly shown in your kind disposition towards the former president.
Former President Carter has been threatening this action since 2000.
The issue is certainly worthy of personal investments, but I am not sure that Carter has the equity to dispense.
The convention was back in late June and his announcement has not created any buzz or waves to my knowledge.
Did he build any coalition around the issue while he was in?
Would the response be different should President Bill Clinton, also a SB join the cause?

I don't think Clinton has been a Southern Baptist since he went to the White House. There are many other Baptist denominations and I think he has associated with churches of those other denominations. I am not sure he is officially a member anywhere. Our current president is discovering that when you are POTUS is is difficult to join a church.
